Report: You may soon be able to send voicemails on WhatsApp

Remember the short voice messages you left on someone’s phone when it was off or not picked up, called voicemails? Now, we normally send text messages on WhatsApp, but for unanswered VoIP calls through WhatsApp, voicemail may be coming to the app.

According to reports, the Facebook-owned company will soon be introducing the ability to record and send a voicemail on an unanswered voice call.

Unlike traditional voicemail, this version will reportedly allow you to listen back to your voicemail before you hit send (handy for those times like when you trip over your words.)

There’s no word on how this will work, but we imagine an option will pop up asking you if you want to leave a voicemail and upon selecting “yes”, or something like that, you’ll be able to tap on the voice recording icon, such as the one you find in text chats, and record.

Another feature that’s said to be coming is something called call back, which you’ll be able to use to call people back without having to open the WhatsApp app.

“The button will appear in the notification panel, next to the WhatsApp missed call notification,” according to digit.

Zip file sharing is also said to be on the way as addition to the document sharing option added in the March major update.

The above features will be arriving on Android and iOS, should they indeed be real.
