Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is coming for your wallet

At the end of last year rumours abounded about the possibility of new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games costing more than R1 000 on release. Games like Quantum Break and Dark Souls 3 confirmed this, and now Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is following suit.

If you head on over to our local versions of the PlayStation or Xbox stores, you’ll find the worrying prices. The base game alone will set you back R1 199, while you’ll need to pay R 1 549 if you want the remastered version of Modern Warfare as well. We can’t find any prices for the PC version as of yet.

Here are the pre-order prices on both platforms:

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (base game): R1 199
  • Digital Legacy Edition (base game + Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered): R 1 549
  • Digital Deluxe Edition (Digital Legacy Edition + unannounced DLC): R1 899

It should be noted that pre-ordering gets you 1 000 Call of Duty Points to use in Black Ops III.

If that doesn’t soothe the sting of that high price, we may have something that does: only a few hours after the official announcement trailer, someone made a tongue-in-cheek video entitled “Direction of the Call of Duty Franchise”, which may be more applicable to us and our high local prices.

Be warned, however, as it contains spoilers about the end of Modern Warfare 2.

What do you all think about this? Will you be spending this much money on a game come November 4, or will you vote with your wallet and get something else (or nothing at all) instead?
