The Division clocks in 9.5 million registered players

Ubisoft’s The Division was one of the quarter’s most anticipated games, but we think the game development company already knew during its beta phase that it might have a winner on its hands.

During Ubisoft’s quarterly earnings report, the company revealed that The Division at the moment has 9.5 million registered users.

The on-going success of the title has also helped the company to post better-than-expected earnings.

“The Division currently has 9.5 million registered users, and active players are playing the game an average of three hours1 per day. These successes resulted in our digital segment outperforming our targets for the fiscal year and positively impacted our profitability,” it said in a statement.

Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft, gave a bit of a hint as to why it made $192 billion in operating income – good games.

“We have tripled the audience for Far Cry, doubled it for Rainbow Six, and launched The Division and Watch Dogs which were the first and third-largest releases ever for a new video game brand. In parallel, we have increased the sales weighting of our digital segment to 32%, primarily through organic growth,” he said.

While the game has proven to be successful with initial sales and the millions of people who play it, the game has been the hampered somewhat in recent week with ongoing glitches and cheaters, and exploits.

Some of the exploits have gifted players insane amounts of damager per second (DPS) allowing them to kill The Incursion boss incredibly easily.

After much outcry from players who have been absolutely slaughtered in the Dark Zone due to their refusal to partake in the cheating, Ubisoft said that it would be implementing new anti-cheat measures.

Eurogamer has also reported that Ubisoft plans on announcing another triple-A title at this year’s E3, but the nature of the genre is still a mystery.
