Tetris the Movie: Everything’s falling into place

Tetris, yes that game about the falling shapes where you need to create lines, is being turned into a movie, and now we have new information about it from producer Larry Kasanoff.

If Kasanoff sounds familiar, he was also a producer on legendarily bad movies Foodfight! and Mortal Kombat. He’s going to be working with investor Bruno Wu on Tetris.

Kasanoff’s Threshold Entertainment Group and Wu’s Seven Star Works are co-developing and financing the film, which is billed as an $80 million (R1.2 billion!) production.

If all of this isn’t crazy enough, Kasanoff told Deadline that this movie, aimed for a 2017 release, will be the first part of a trilogy.

Our favourite part of this is that he also told the website that “The goal is to make world movies for the world market” and “it naturally fits”. We’re going to have to disagree with you there, Larry. Ironically, a game based solely on fitting shapes together just doesn’t translate into a natural movie. Maybe that’s why this movie is going to be a “sci-fi thriller”.

To end off we’d like to talk about one of the movies we mentioned earlier, Foodfight!. This bizarre animated title surprisingly features voice acting from the likes of Charlie Sheen, Eva Longoria Parker and even Christopher Lloyd. Oh Doc Brown, they dragged you into this mess, didn’t they? The film takes place in a bizzaro alternate reality where supermarket products are alive and have complex lives. Kind of like Toy Story, minus, you know, everything you liked about Toy Story.

So that you don’t have to, JonTron sat down to watch the film and he gave you the best bits in the video below. Just a note if you’re at work: the video contains swearing so either grab your headphones or save this for later to watch at home.
