The Division’s latest update brings a new way to go rogue

The second free update for Ubisoft Massive’s Tom Clancy’s The Division, titled Conflict, promises new missions, new gear sets and a brand new way to go rogue.

Up until this update the only way to go rogue in the Dark Zone was to empty a magazine (or several) into other players, putting a big red cross on your back that marks you as rogue while also upping the ante on the rewards you receive for doing so.

With the release of the the Conflict update players will now be able to “Extraction Hijacks” (Ubi’s capitalisation there, not ours). Simply put, any player will be able to interrupt an extraction in the Dark Zone by cutting the rope leading up to the chopper. This will send all loot bags attached to the rope plummeting to the ground where we assume – given how dropped loot in the Dark Zone works – they will be anybody’s for the taking.

It’s an interesting new feature because it means that you can no longer run into an extraction zone, attach your loot to the chopper and then run away while you wait for it to be extracted. Now, players will now need to remain at the extraction site until the loot is safe in their stash.

As with the last update, 1.1, Conflict will add a new end-game event or Incursion, titled Clear Sky.

Speaking about what loot players can expect to get from this Incursion, Game Director Petter Mannerfelt said, “On Hard mode, you can expect High End items with a 204 gear score, and Gear Set items with a 214 gear score every time you complete the mission. You also get double rewards the first time you complete the Incursion every week.”

Four new gear sets have been added to this update which can be earned by completing the Incursion, namely:

  • Final Measure (defense set)
  • Hunter’s Faith (long-range set)
  • Predators Mark (support set)
  • Lone Star (high damage per second set)

As you may or may not know, the last free game update which added the Falcon Lost Incursion featured a number of glitches and exploits which players used to farm up High End (the best gear quality tier in the game) loot. Ubisoft eventually came out and said that players who used known exploits and cheated may find themselves on the receiving end of a ban hammer.

We’re almost certain that the Clear Sky Incursion will have similar issues, but perhaps Ubi will surprise us.

Developer Massive has also added new missions for the end-game known as Search and Destroy missions. These can be found in named zones around Manhattan once all side missions and encounters have been completed. Once these Search and Destroy missions are complete they will open up High Value Targets which you will find directions to at your Base of Operations.

According to the developer, these high-end targets will only be available for a limited time and players will only one chance to take down these targets.

There are a few interesting things in this update, especially the Extraction Hijacks mechanic, and I for one am quite excited to drop back into Manhattan and explore it a bit more.

The free Conflict update will be activated on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on on 24th May.
