Three projects to make you excited about virtual reality

Virtual reality (VR) is becoming more and more popular and everyday it seems we find a new project that showcases its mind-blowing potential.

Today we have not one, but three new projects to whet your appetites.

The Brookhaven Experiment

We’re going to be perfectly honest here: while The Brookhaven Experiment – a limited ammo zombie game – looks like a decent enough horror/shooter, we’re including it here for that poor girl’s terrified reaction to being swarmed by the undead. Is it mean that we laughed, a lot?

But we have another reason for including it aside from the giggles. Horror games (and movies) make it a point of pride to suck you into their worlds and scare the excrement out of you. VR makes this so much better and those horrified screams above are proof of that.

The Brookhaven Experiment is out on June 22nd for the HTC Vive if you want to pick it up. It will run you R219 on release or R164.25 if you pick it up before launch.

Spell Casting Leap Motion Demo 02

Now for something a bit less polished but just as cool. Simply called “Spell Casting” and running off of the Leap Motion hardware, this demo shows off first person casting VR spells.

Now, if you’ve played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, this is going to look very familiar to you. Whether intentional or not, this game looks like a VR version of spell casting from Skyrim. That, in our opinion, only makes this look even better.

The developer of the game currently has a discussion running on Reddit if you’d like to ask them any questions.

Duck Hunt: VR

You may recognise this game from when it was called Duck Hunt Life VR and we wrote about it. To catch you up: developer Joseph Delgado created a virtual reality version of the classic game Duck Hunt for Global Game Jam 2016.

Now he’s getting the nod from us again because he’s making the game available for download. While Delgado admits to the game’s limitations and shortcomings due to the project being created for a 24 hour Game Jam, he hopes it will be of use to gamedev students.

Download Duck Hunt: VR here . You’ll need an HTC Vive to play.

As a start to our Monday, looking at all of this makes the early morning worth it.

So tell us: do these three projects make you excited for virtual reality? And what is your favourite of the three?
