A whole month of making with the SkateHacks Youth Month Tours

SkateHacks is a really cool project we’ve covered in the past: using skateboards as a vehicle to teach kids science, technology, engineering, art and maths (STEAM).

Geekulcha and the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDaT) now have an entire month of SkateHacks events planned, called the Youth Month Tours.

Each tour date (listed below) will feature:

  • SkateHacks Chat
    • Speaking to skaters to learn what tech could be added to make the better.
  • Mobile Ninjas
    • A look at apps aimed at skating as well as the opportunity to make more.
  • Hack-a-Skate
    • Hands-on experience applying open source hardware and software to skateboards.
  • Gaming Zone
    • Kids don’t just get to play games, but also learn how they’re made.

If you’d like to take part in any of these activities, or have children who do, make sure you make it to one of the dates below:

Northern Cape (Rural Education Development )

  • 2nd June: Springbok
  • 3rd June: Upington
  • 5th June: De Aar

Gauteng (Smart Growing World solutions)

  • 16th June: Soweto
  • 23rd – 24th June: Midrand (IoTHack @ InnoLive Conference)
  • 24th – 26th June: Pretoria (GKHack16)
