Rocket League gets cross-play between Xbox One and PC

Ever since its release Rocket League has consistently been one of the top 10 games being played online.

This trend continued after its launched on Xbox One, with console players kitting out their chosen rides to score sweet goals in its chaotic football arenas.

According to various media report, those two groups of players will now be able to take each other on, as the highly-anticipated cross-play functionality will be switched on for Rocket League at midnight tonight locally (3pm PST).

What that means, is that players on Xbox One will be able to compete against players on PC. On the same map. At the same time. Together. Needless to say, Rocket league will be the first game ever to support cross-platform play between PC and Xbox One players.

“Both public and private matches will now allow you to find players from a pool that includes players from both platforms, unless you turn the feature off in the options menu,” wrote VG247.

So if you fire up the game on Wednesday, you will automatically be pitted against players from a different platform. But that also means that you might have players on your side on a different platform. It is still unclear as to whether there will be a set ratio of players per platform in a match.

If you don’t want the feature, you can easily turn it off in the menu.

If you have been following the news surrounding cross-play and Rocket League, this shouldn’t really come as a surprise.

The feature has been a discussion point for the developers for some time, as cross-network play has been one of the most requested features from gamers to the Xbox teams. Microsoft even said that cross-play would kick off with Rocket League.

“In addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks,” explained Chris Charla Director of ID@Xbox, in March.
