Pricing and areas activated for Vodacom’s fibre to the home, revealed

While Vodacom negotiates how much it will pay Kenneth Makate for Please Call Me, the operator is also aggressively rolling out fibre to the home (FTTH) connectivity to various estates across South Africa.

According to Vodacom spokesperson Byron Kennedy, there are currently 16 estates with fibre connectivity. “We are also in various stages of planning across another 190 Estates,” Kennedy told Fin24.

The areas that now have fibre thanks to Vodacom are:

Gauteng

  • 3 on Beaufort
  • Aquila Estate
  • Borgo de Felice
  • Bushwillow Estate
  • Dainfern Vallet
  • Eagle Canyon
  • Eagleton Apartments
  • Sibiti Reserve
  • Summerfield Cluster 9
  • Summerfield Estate

Western Cape

  • De Wijnlanden
  • Dennegeur
  • The Colosseum

KwaZulu-Natal

  • Mount Edgecombe

Free State

  • Hillandale
  • Woodlands Hills Estate

Sadly however, Vodacom doesn’t offer an uncapped package on its fibre connections, so folks will need to keep a close eye on their data caps which is a bit of a bother. Thankfully, the pricing does cover the cost of a router and the installation.

The pricing for the packages follows below.

  • 10Mbps with 100GB cap @ R599 per month for 24 months
  • 20Mbps with 300GB cap @ R799 per month for 24 months
  • 40Mbps with 1TB cap @ R1 199 per month for 24 months
  • 100Mbps with 2TB cap @ R1 799 per month for 24 months

Vodacom has said that users will be able to top up their accounts if they run out of data during the month. R35 gets users 5GB, R65 buys 10GB, R120 will get you 20GB and R250 will get you 50GB.

We also spotted that Vodacom is offering a 3G/LTE Fallback service which will keep you connected should the fibre line fall over. It does cost an extra R59 per month, but you should always have internet then. Well, assuming the LTE connection doesn’t fall over as well.

Call us stingy but these prices are quite high; then again if you’re living in an estate you can probably afford to splurge a bit on your internet connection.
