EFF hits the right notes with house & hip hop songs

It seems that music is becoming a more prominent tool in South African politics.

This week saw the release of “Thank You SABC”, the broadcaster’s self-congratulatory ditty that was teased last week.

Now, The EFF has released its second track in a week, aimed at appealing to its core supporters and interestingly, it’s not as cringe-worthy as “Thank You SABC”.

Last week, the party released a hip hop song titled “In EFF I Trust”, a three-minute long tune which began trending on Twitter, with many expressing their approval of it. Today it’s followed that up with a house track.

Listen to it below.

The house track, titled “Ikhona iEFF” (the EFF is here), is a catchy dance tune often heard at parties in townships.

“Uma ufuna impilo engcono, votela iEFF,” (if you you want a better life, vote for the EFF) goes the track, sung by a female vocalist.

Youth are the EFF’s biggest market, especially since its leader, Julius Malema, is the former leader of the country’s biggest political youth movement, The ANC Youth League.

The party also is also more tech-savvy than its opponents, latching onto trends on social media and entertainment – this year it even produced its own app – aimed at appealing to core voters. Now it can boast two songs in its campaigning efforts for the 2016 Municipal Elections.
