Steam “Summer Sale” now available

We must apologise, reader, for we have deceived you. Steam’s annual site-wide sale, the Summer Sale, is only rumoured to begin on June 23rd.

What this story is really about is a game, on Steam, called Summer Sale.

The premise is simple: in this “simulation game”, you play a clicker minigame to gain money, and then you spend it on fake games.

That’s all there is really. The video on Steam shows off some other elements like the ability to actually play the games and browse the web, but that too is simulated and looks more basic than the Flash games made by thirteen-year-olds in the early 2000’s.

Looking around the game’s page on Steam and it’s filled with the signs that this is obviously a joke game. For one, the game only costs $0.99 (R12) and the average playtime is a lengthy two minutes.

We guess that a lot of people are buying the game and instantly refunding it, though, as the player data actually yields negative numbers.

For R12, we’re also seriously considering buying the game to see how it works, and maybe it actually scratches the itch of buying discounted games. We’ll skip buying coffee this afternoon and get back to you.

Edit: Actually, screw buying the game. We think the real joke here is that the game’s description reads: “experience Summer Sale without losing money”, but we’re going to have to spend money to “play” it. Also; we imagine the developer gets a kick out of every sale this makes. What kind of coffee should we get instead?
