Skills academy to train young mobile devs will soon open in Soweto

The Innovation Hub and mLab South Africa have again partnered in a venture that will see the unearthing of young mobile developers in Soweto.

CodeTribe Academy will soon open its doors in Soweto, where youths will receive full bursaries and training in developing for the Android OS, backend and Cloud platforms while using SCRUM Agile methodologies.

The academy will be located at The Innovation Hub’s eKasiLabs Centre located at the Soweto Empowerment Zone.

“This is such an exciting partnership for us. Over the last two years the mLab and Innovation Hub teams have been working hard on building out a programme that empowers youth with market appropriate mobile development skills,” Rulani Nevhufumba, mLab Facilitator and CodeTribe Coach, mLab Southern Africa, said in a statement.

“This commitment by The Innovation Hub and the Gauteng Province now brings further opportunity for youth in some of the provinces’ most vibrant and youthful communities and opens the door for them to join the tribe and participate in the coding economy,” Nevhufumba added.

CodeTribe Academy is an expansion of the existing initiative in Pretoria.

Applications for the academy in Soweto and the next season in Pretoria are now open, with 60 bursaries available.

We are committed to the Township Economy Revitalisation [programme] through technology and empowering the youth in software and mobile apps coding, said McLean Sibanda, CEO The Innovation Hub.
