Two of my favourite free to play games, Dota 2 and Hearthstone, have been smashed together by a fan who has recreated some Dota 2 heroes as Hearthstone cards.

Reddit user, Jcb3454, felt the pangs of boredom and set to work creating a few Hearthstone cards inspired by Dota 2 characters.

Coincidentally, Dota started out as a mod for Warcraft 3 before it became a standalone game from Valve.

Knowing this, Dota characters seem ready to be added to the Hearthstone roster.

Amongst our favourite cards is Legion Commander. The Dota 2 character has an ability which forces another character to fight her, should Legion win, she gains damage.

The Hearthstone card uses a similar mechanic in that Legion’s Battlecry effect challenges a minion, if Legion kills the minion the card gets +3 Attack.

Another we quite like is Nevermore, Demon Eater. The card is a straight up copy of Ragnaros the Fire Lord, only with Shadow Fiend in place of the fire lord.

Finally, Jcb3454 even created companion cards to go with some of the effects of others, such as Beastmaster. The Beastmaster card has a Battlecry effect that summons a 1/1 boar with charge and a 1/1 hawk with stealth, a reference, once again harking back to the Dota character’s abilities.

On a somewhat related note, things are hotting up for the year’s biggest Dota 2 tournament, The International.

The regional qualifying rounds are set to wrap up today in South East Asia and China. At the end of those games we should have a clear idea of who is going to be competing this year.

The prize pool is climbing steadily thanks to the crowd-funding Valve employs to fund the tournament.

The current total is very close to meeting the target of $18 million with $13.9 million raised already and less than two months to go before the tournament kicks off.
