Watch the first SA-made animation from Disney’s Story Lab on YouTube now

A few weeks ago it was announced that Triggerfish Animation Studios was home to the only animated football short from Africa to be licensed by The Walt Disney Company.

The animated short titled, A Dogshow With Cat is the first project borne from the Triggerfish Story Lab. The initiative was aimed at finding some of the best animators on the continent.

The Story Lab would develop the creations of these animators into fully fledged movies, and series.

A Dogshow With Cat is the creation of Mike Scott and the video below is a specially produced for Disney XD FC.

For those that can’t watch the video, the short follows obsessed gaming cat, Catlyn who, after a night of gaming can’t stop seeing her friend Doggy Poggy’s head as a football. Naturally, Catlyn wants to kick the ball and well, we don’t want to spoil the ending for you.

GOAL!

This is just the latest in a long line of achievements from Triggerfish Animation Studio. Most recently the studio won the prestigious Le Cristal award at the Annecy festival for its animated film, Stick Man.

The film’s cast included Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Sherlock Holmes) and English comedienne, Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous). Stick Man was watched by 10million viewers when it debuted on the BBC on Christmas Day.

The studio isn’t resting on its laurels though.

Triggerfish is working on another animation for the BBC’s Christmas Day viewers. Details are scarce but we’re told the animation will be based on Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes.
