SABC suspends three more journalists who stood up to it

The SABC has reportedly suspended three more journalists who wrote a letter condemning the public broadcaster’s revised editorial policy and the suspensions of their colleagues.

According to Independent Media SA’s Executive Editor, Karima Brown, SAfm executive producer, Krivani Pillay, Special Assignment executive producer, Busisiwe Ntuli and investigative reporter, Jaques Steenkamp were given notices today.

The trio’s letter was written shortly after economics editor Thandeka Gqubule, RSG executive producer Foeta Krige and senior journalist Suna Venter were suspended last Friday after allegedly disagreeing with the decision not to cover the Right2Know Campaign protest at the SABC offices last week.

In the letter, the journalists said the SABC newsroom has become a source of derision, despair and criticism.

Krige and Venter have also reportedly been charged, but it is not clear what exactly they’ve been charged with.

We’ll update this story as it develops.
