Google’s Android N is now officially Nougat

In case you have been locked in an isolation ward for the last decade, you’ll know Google has penchant for naming its Android versions after food. Well, sweets at least.

Android N, the company’s next version of the Android operating system, is no different. In a rather fun video, the company officially announced the version name as Nougat.

After the announcement of Android N at this year’s Google I/O, the company asked the Android community to name the version, i.e what the ‘N’ should stand for.

We are slightly disappointed that Google didn’t go with Nutella, but then again if it had, it would probably have to pay royalties to Italian manufacturer Ferrero.

Nougat is the seventh version of Android, and  follows Android 6.0.1. That in itself is a bit odd, as Android Police points out that Android Marshmallow will never have a 6.1 release. All the other Android versions has had one, but reception to Marshmallow (6.0) has been lukewarm.

As for details on Nougat, you are as much in the dark as we are.
