Bloodhound supersonic car has race date for South Africa

Ever since South Africa was picked to host a land speed world record, everybody in the office has been fairly excited to witness the Bloodhound Supersonic car in action.

Originally slated for 2015, the land speed record attempt was pushed back to this year, and then, due to a number of financial issues it was shifted once again.

However, the company behind the supersonic car has now announced it has secured the necessary funding that will allow it attempt the record in October 2017.

“The recent signing of major deals means The Bloodhoud Project now has sufficient funding pledged to complete the car and start the countdown to high speed testing at the Hakskeen Pan, Northern Cape, South Africa, in Autumn next year,” the company said in a newsletter.

“The identity of the new partner(s) will be revealed in due course,” it added.

There’s still a lot of work to be done ahead of the team trying to break the 1277.98 km/h barrier. While this might sound a bit weird, the team now has the task of compiling a user manual.

“The team will now disassemble the 13.5m long streamliner, documenting the process in fine detail, to create the Bloodhound User Manual,” the company said. “Given that, at some point in the future, engineers may be working on the world’s most complex racing car, at 2am, in the Kalahari Desert, an accurate illustrated guide will be essential piece of kit.”

After the manual is created, the car needs to be transported to Newquay Aerohub for tie-down tests, a Shakedown Test needs to be performed and the first practice loading of the car into the 747 will take place during the Farnborough International Airshow.

“We have come through this difficult stage wiser, leaner and fitter. Bloodhound is now in Race Preparation which means the pace and the pressure will ramp up but so too will the sense of satisfaction as we head towards our Car breaking the sound barrier for the first time, with the world watching!” said Project Director Richard Noble.
