The Redmi Note 3 will cost less than R4 000

Purveyor of cheap and cheerful smartphones, Xiaomi confirmed a few weeks ago that its Redmi Note 3 would be coming to SA.

At the time we didn’t have idea about price, but now we do. Scrolling through the information sent to us by Mobile in Africa, Xiaomi’s local distributor, we’ve found that the upgrade to the Redmi Note 2 is still relatively cheap at R3 799.

That is R800 more than the Redmi Note 2 at launch, but the Note 3 has received a sizeable upgrade.

The Note 3 will house Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 chipset. The octa-core in the Note 2 been swapped out for a hexa-core processor running at 1.8GHz in the Note 3.

There will also be a Adreno 510 graphics processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with the option to add a microSD card.

As with the Note 2, a 16MP camera will be at the back and a 5MP snapper will take selfie duty.

Finally, the metal body also houses a fingerprint scanner. The scanner Xiaomi used in the Mi 5 was both a joy to use and incredibly fast so we’re hoping that they use similar tech in the Note 3.

There is no official launch date but we have been told to expect the handset in the next few weeks.

When the Note 3 is available you’ll be able to get your hands on one through Takealot or the Mobile in Africa website.
