Put a PC in your PC with this 3D printed Raspberry Pi mount

While the 5.25″ drive bay is basically a dead physical format for computer cases, many manufacturers still include them.

While almost no one is filling them with floppy drives, there’s a ton of cool stuff you can stick in there, so why not a Raspberry Pi?

You’ll be able to do so thanks to this mount created by a user on Thingiverse. As described by the creator:

One day I looked at my computer and thought, how can I make this meta? I decided putting a “computer inside of a computer” would be enough. This is a Raspberry Pi 3 Case that fits inside of a 5.25″ drive bay. It follows the CD drive standards so it should fit in any computer case with drive bays. The only tested case is an Antec 900.

After you’ve downloaded the files and printed the mount, screw your Raspberry Pi to it and pop it in the bay. It’s that simple. The creator also supplies some tips they gathered from doing it themselves.

While optical drives are the main use for this size of bay nowadays, we have a really cool alternative if you have more than one bay open. This “4-in-3 Device Module” from Cooler Master turns three 5.25″ drive bays into four 3.5” bays. it also comes with a blue LED fan and a nice fascia that will stick out the front of your case.

We bought one of these a few years ago, but they’re sadly nowhere to be seen when we looked recently. While a pain to install, the finished product is great. If you see one for sale and have the specific need in mind, don’t hesitate to buy it.
