Windows 10 Enterprise now has a subscription fee

Microsoft this week announced a new pricing plan for enterprises who want Windows 10 without having to lay out a small fortune upfront.

The new product will be known as Windows 10 Enterprise E3 (yes, like gaming expo) and will be distributed through cloud solution provider partners.

This is, to put it simply, Windows as a service. Rather than having to fork out R2 299 (Windows 10 Professional) per user, enterprises will be able to get Windows 10 Enterprise for $7 per user per month or $84 per user per year. Pricing for South Africa has not been confirmed by Microsoft just yet.

“In most instances, organizations are moving quickly to Windows 10 due to the heightened security risks they face and the industry-leading security features in Windows 10 that can help protect them,” Microsoft vice president, Yusuf Mehdi said in a blog post.

Windows 10 Enterprise E3 will be made available through Microsoft cloud solution providers. This means that enterprises will be able to get Office 365, Dynamics Azure and their operating system from one provider. This means less running around and more importantly having one point of contact for any problems.

Enterprise E3 will be made available in the spring but an exact date is yet to be announced.

There’s also no word on whether the Home and Professional versions of Windows will receive the same treatment, and we really hope that it doesn’t.
