SABC tells reinstated journos not to come to work, will appeal court judgement

The SABC has this morning in a shock move, told four journalists that were suppossed to be back at work today not to report for duty as it will be appealing yesterday’s Labour Court ruling.

The Labour Court yesterday ordered Suna Venter, Krivani Pillay, Jacques Steenkamp and Foeta Krige to be reinstated with immediate effect after having been didmissed by the public broadcaster on 18th July.

The four were meant to start work again today, while the public broadcaster’s management was to write to the court, telling it who was responsible for the dismissals as those people would be liable for legal costs.

This is the letter the public broadcaster’s legal team sent to the four and Solidarity.

This is a tweet posted by the public broadcaster’s new CEO, James Aguma, yesterday afternoon.

Trade Union Solidarity, is yet to make a statement on the matter, it did however say yesterday that should the SABC stop the journalists from going back to work, the public broadcaster would be in contempt of court.
