Having too much hard drive space on which to store your digital life isn’t something you ever hear people complaining about, and with good reason: it’s not really possible to have too much.
A fantastic way to expand your storage options is with Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, like this one from QNAP – the TurboNAS TS-121. It’s a single-bay NAS drive that sits on your home or small business network, storing not only stores files, but acting as a media server, download client and many other handy things besides.
That’s because QNAP has developed a ton of apps specifically for their NAS enclosures, which expand their capabilities beyond merely that of network file storage. There’s a Plex app that stores and sorts your movies and videos and streams them to other Plex-compatible devices, BitTorrent Sync for synchronising your files across various devices and even an app to sync the drive’s contents with existing cloud solutions like DropBox and OneDrive. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
But probably the handiest of features is the TS-121’s personal cloud capability, which gives you access to the files stored on the device from anywhere, via the internet and QNAP’s myQNAPcloud service. And best of all, it’s easy to set up and use, even if you have no IT experience.
We’ve reviewed its bigger brother, the TS-251 over here – it’s a beautiful two-bay NAS with RAID support, as well as support for QNAP’s wide range of apps that give it abilities over and above its storage functions.
We have one to give away to a lucky reader courtesy of our friends at Corex! To enter, you just need to answer one easy question; get it right and the TS-121, which is worth R3 995, could be yours.
Please be aware that we’re giving away just the enclosure itself, without a hard drive as that’s how it’s shipped – to make use of it you must add your own.
Here’s the question:
