Build better Facebook apps with developer workshop

Does your business (or career) need a bit of a kick-start in the mobile apps department?Facebook is willing to help South African software engineers, product managers and partners build better applications – and how to make the most money from them.

A Facebook for Developers workshop will be held in Johannesburg on 24 August and as Facebook explains, it will be packed with valuable practical advice and detailed information about how developers can make the most of the latest features of the Facebook Platform, Bots on Messenger and Open Source development tools.

Don’t worry if you think it is going to be a ‘death by Powerpoint’ presentation, as the Facebook Product Partnerships and Engineering teams will be on-hand to lend practical support to attendees through hands-on instruction via code-labs, tech-talks, and updates

Facebook says that the workshop will be split into three sections:

  • Reaching your audience with Bots on Messenger
  • Building fast and reliable login flows with Account Kit
  • Making your apps globally accessible with React Native

“Facebook is passionate about working with South African developers and entrepreneurs to deliver experiences that meet the needs of their community. This workshop is all about empowering them with the tools and expertise they need to create solutions and services that are powerful, engaging and relevant,” explained Emeka Afigbo, Strategic Product Partnerships Manager at Facebook.

She added that it is also the perfect occasion for Facebook to listen to some of the concerns that developers might have.

“It’s also an opportunity to listen to our developers and learn more about how we can better serve the South African community by working with our partners.”

The workshop will be done in collaboration with JoziHub, but you have to hurry if you want to attend. While registration is free, attendance is by invitation only, and is limited to 60 participants.

If you think you have what it takes to be selected, you can go to the official website and fill out an application form.

The deadline for those are 11 August 2016.
