Locally-made game ‘A Day in the Woods’ is on Steam Greenlight, and needs your vote

We have written about RetroEpic’s fantastic puzzler A Day in the Woods before, but now you can help the South African developer get its latest game onto Steam.

The puzzler has now been pushed into the Greenlight section on Steam, meaning that you can poke around at the trailer, screenshots and read the description. If you like what you see, you can vote to move it into Steam proper for worldwide distribution.

The title has seen a release on PC and iOS but for the Greenlight process, RetroEpic has made some changes.

“We’ve made a lot of updates and revitalised the game with each of the 60 puzzle levels either having been streamlined or completely overhauled for an even better player experience. We now believe we have an even better game to share but we need your help getting Greenlit,” it explained.

As a way of saying thank you to those who bought the original game, every player who bought the original A Day in the Woods will receive a free Steam Key of the game once it’s released.

Just in case you missed our previous coverage, the game is a re-imagining of the traditional sliding puzzle game with a fairy tale twist. You need to solve each hexagon-tiled level and get Red Riding Hood safely to Granny’s house.

As part of the update, the 60 puzzle levels have been redesigned, the artwork has been spruced up, UI elements have been updated, and more unlockable elements have been added.

Last year the studio walked away with a $50 000 (R700 000) publishing contract with Spil Games, after it was crowned the grand winner of the Unsung Heroes Competition.

The competition had more than 300 entrants from around the world, and promised to increase the winning game’s profile by exposing it to Spil Games’ 130 million monthly users. The publishing contract prize was used for marketing and support to help the game reach a wider audience.

If you want to help them out, just go to the Steam page and click on ‘yes’ when asked if you buy this game if it were available in Steam.
