Residents in the City of Ekurhuleni can now borrow ebooks from any of the municipality’s libraries. The city launched the service last week.

Anyone can head over to any library with their tablet or mobile, log onto to the free municipal WiFi, browse a list of ebooks and download one to read.

All you have to do is visit http://gauteng.lib.overdrive.com and type in your library membership number. All books are free to download.

“The City’s ultimate purpose for this initiative is to encourage the culture of reading amongst our citizens and to provide convenient access to books at any given time without walking into the library,” said Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

“Plans are in place to roll out an educational awareness campaign across the City to assist library users and librarians to be familiar with using the online site,” Gadebe concluded.
