Local release of the Samsung Galaxy Note7 delayed by three weeks

Samsung South Africa has announced that the local launch of its Galaxy Note7 has been delayed by as much as three weeks.

Originally slated for a 2nd September release, the handset will now hit local shelves from 23rd September.

“The overwhelming global demand for the new and improved Galaxy Note7 resulted in a flood of orders,” said Samsung South Africa’s director of integrated mobility, Craige Fleischer.

“Appropriation of the initial consignment has required us to re-look the local availability date of the smartphone to ensure fulfilment of all early orders,” said Fleischer.

Pre-orders open 9th September

If you aren’t overly enraged with this news, pre-orders the for Note7 will start from 9th September. Pre-orders will be handled by mobile network operators.

Pre-ordering the handset between the 9th and 23rd September will net buyers an accessory kit valued at R1 299. The kit includes a wireless charger, a flexible and transparent phone cover, a micro USB to USB Type C converter as well as two screen protectors.

We can’t help but feel a bit hard-done-by with this news. The Note7 hits shelves in the US on 19th August, which is this week Friday for those keeping score, and they’ve been ordering their handsets since 3rd August.

We’re guessing “appropriation of the initial consignment” is Samsung’s way of saying it grossly under estimated how many people wanted this handset so now we all need to wait in a longer line.

Oh well, at least we’re getting the handset I suppose.
