EA drops new Battlefield 1 trailer, announces open beta

EA and DICE are putting some serious weight behind Battlefield 1 – probably to make up for the disappointment that was Battlefield 4 .

The latest attempt to push the hype wagon is the new trailer for this year’s Gamescom, which by all accounts promises some pretty epic and chaotic goodness.

The developer claims that the footage is in-game, and while it looks absolutely fantastic, we can’t but help wonder if it wasn’t perhaps captured on a PC running at Ultra settings.

That consideration aside, the game looks positively swoon worthy. Bi-planes dropping bombs on horseback-riding soldiers? Check. Brutal melee kills with a shovel to the face? Check. Dust storms and tense accompanying music? Check.

But don’t take our word for it, just have a look at the trailer below to feast your eyes on what will (hopefully) be one of the best games of the year.

If you’re excited for the game, you may be able to get your hands on it before it launches. EA announced that there will be a Battlefield 1 Open Beta, starting August 31 on PC, Xbox and PS4.

Players who sign up as a Battlefield Insider and choose their platform before 21 August will be eligible to receive early access to the Open Beta. The Battlefield 1 Open Beta will feature two franchise favourite modes – Conquest and Rush – on the new Sinai Desert map.

If you are a member of EA’s Access subscription service, you will also be able to play the full game a week before it launches worldwide on 21st October.
