New Sony slim PS4 outed on auction website

On top of its much rumoured PlayStation Neo, Sony may be about to announce a slimmer, sleeker PS4 console at its New York showcase this coming September.

The evidence for this comes courtesy of auction website Gumtree, on which a seller from Manchester in the UK posted a listing for a slim PS4 with rounded edges and a 500GB hard drive.

The listing was reported on videogames website IGN, but has since been removed. Far be it from us at htxt.africa to cast any aspersions, but if the device is legit it’s highly unlikely that the person who posted the listing had any business doing so.

After all, Sony doesn’t have much of a sense of humour when it comes to people revealing that hardware or new games exist before the PS4 platform-holder has the opportunity to do so.

If the slim PS4 is a bona fide Sony product, it’s likely that the Gumtree seller has stolen some of Sony’s thunder ahead of September’s showcase. It’s unknown at this point whether the console that was listed on Gumtree is just a slimmer PS4 or whether it’s the PS4 Neo. Hopefully next month’s showcase will confirm this.

Microsoft recently released the slimmer, slightly more powerful version of the Xbox One, the Xbox One S, which also boasts 4K playback. There’s also the uber powerful Project Scorpio in the pipeline.

Sony has remained tight-lipped about its plans for the PS4 Neo although press releases ahead of September’s event say it will serve as “a technical showcase” for Sony’s future hardware. You’ll have more details as soon as we get them.
