Disney Channel coming to cheaper DStv subscriptions for a limited time

To celebrate 10 years on DStv, Disney will be lowering the barrier for entry to watch its Disney Channel.

From September 5th to October 9th 2016, Disney Channel 303 will be available on DStv Extra and DStv Compact, where it was only available on DStv Premium in the past.

The difference in price is what makes this important. According to the company’s advertising, Premium costs R949 per month, whereas Extra costs R459 and Compact starts at R345.

These prices begin to get muddy when you consider the necessary decoders as well as installation and any other fees we’re missing, but the concept of cheaper access to the channel remains.

This is the second piece of good news from the Disney Showcase 2016 for those looking for cheaper content. The first piece was the fact that many Marvel movies and TV shows will be coming to e.tv later this year.

While this is all well and good, we can’t help but feel like DStv is still very expensive. If you feel the same, we’d suggest streaming services such as Netlfix of ShowMax. They cost R112.86 – R169.37 and R99 respectively and the only prerequisites as a reasonable internet connection and some kind of device to watch your content on.
