Yesterday at the Disney Showcase 2016 – where the House Of Mouse showed off its entertainment plans for the next year – we caught a glimpse of some new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 concept art.
What we saw focused on Groot – you may remember him as the large plant-like character voiced by Vin Diesel. We’re going to spoil the end of the first movie below, so look away now if you haven’t seen it.
At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Groot was reduced to a pile splinters, but as the last scene showed, everyone’s favourite sentient tree was still alive as a small sapling housed in a pot.
In Volume 2 he’s (is he a “he”?) has been drinking water and absorbing sunlight and has grown up to be about the size of Rocket Raccoon. He’s also wearing the team’s signature red leather uniform.
Unfortunately we can’t show you the image as Disney lawyers would no doubt have something rather stern to say about it if we did, but we had our design department whip up an image.
We used the adult Groot as a base, but you get the idea:
Think of that same look but on the smaller Groot. That same sized tree person was shown off by Empire where the team are squaring off against a tentacle monster:
Looking at the rest of the team, we also now know that Rocket Raccoon will be more of a father figure to the smaller Groot as he grows up.
