Space Hulk – Deathwing finally added to Steam ahead of November launch, has preorder bonuses

With little fanfare and public attention, the newest game in the Warhammer 40K franchise – Space Hulk – Deathwingwas finally added to Steam last night.

This game, developed by Streum On Studio  (also known for E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy) is a co-op first person shooter (FPS) where players take control of Deathwing Space marines as they fight a subset of aliens called Genestealers.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Warhammer 40K universe – and most of the words in the above sentence meant nothing to you – this game still looks accessible thanks to what appears to be relatively straight-forward mechanics. If it takes cues from Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine the story should still be easy to follow.

Now, onto the nitty gritty. Space Hulk – Deathwing’s regular price on Steam is R549. Preordering it, however, gets you a 15% discount bringing that price down to R466.65. We’re not able to get international US dollar pricing at the moment because of Steam’s regional pricing, but it seems like it will be a full price $60 game.

In addition: you will get access to a special weapon called the “Lost Mace of Corswain”. Fret not, the wording on the page seems to indicate that this is just advanced access, so the item may be unlockable in-game through play. Again, we can’t tell right now.

If you signed up for Focus Home Interactive’s (this game’s publisher) newsletter, you may have been forewarned of this news.

From that same newsletter we also got some more information regarding the co-op and what classes will be available. Again, this section of text is going to have a lot of in-universe words so click on the links to find out what they are:

Space Hulk: Deathwing is playable cooperatively as well as in single player. You can join forces as up to four friends, with each of you playing a tactical role in Space Hulk: Deathwing. As the Librarian, you can take up arms with the infamous Storm Bolter and harness psychic powers to unleash destruction on the enemy. The heavy weapon support can mow down Genestealers with his assault cannon, while the Apothecary is tasked with keeping the squad alive. The melee-oriented assault class can shred foes with brutal assault claws, or barge through the front line with shield and power mace. Finally, a tactician specialist can support the team with a passive buff as well as other abilities, which is useful for controlling the swarms of Genestealers. Teamwork is the key to success against the insurmountable enemy force, constantly flooding through the tunnels and corridors of the Space Hulk.

If we’re reading that correctly it looks like there are five classes available despite the size of a squad being limited to four, meaning that one class will always be left out.

Finally, let’s see some gameplay.
