Gauteng parents have until November to apply online for 2017 school space

Parents who are yet to apply online for a school place for their kids going to grade one or eight in Gauteng next year, have until November this year to do so.

This is is the message from the Gauteng Department of Education in response to questions raised by concerned parents.

Late applications have been an issue plaguing the system for months since the deadline for the Admissions site closed on 1st June.

In total, 64 750 late applications have been received so far (35 537 for Grade one and 29 213 for Grade eight).

“These late applicants will be placed only after all applicants who applied during the application period are placed,” the department said.

The low response rate in townships such as Daveyton/Etwatwa, Sebokeng, Soweto and Hammanskraal, have also been a cause for concern.

The department said last week it concluded the placement of half of the applications for pupils which were received on time, while many parents are yet to confirm placement offers and need to do so urgently and that these placements will be concluded by the end of this month.

In May, Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, said that absolutely no late applications will be accepted in January next year.

Parents can still head to their nearest school or library to get assistance with using the Admissions site, should they need it.

“We would like to thank all parents who applied on time. To those learners who are still to be placed, we would like to apologise for the delay as we will expedite their placement,” the department said.
