Tracing Hlaudi’s rise from freelance reporter to COO in just 9 years

Most journalists in the South African media industry who start out as freelancers, work their way up to senior journalists in the first ten years of their careers. This isn’t the path followed by one Hlaudi Mostoeneng.

Motsoeneng controversially rose from the lowly position of freelance reporter, to become the SABC’s COO in just nine years.

Today, that position lies in question after a bid to appeal a ruling that the COO position was handed to him unlawfully, failed at the Supreme Court of Appeal and Motsoeneng is now in limbo between a “normal employee” and the acting COO post.

We may know where Motsoeneng stands at around 2:30pm today when the SABC holds its abrupt media briefing to announce “decisions it has made” (no further details were given, but we’ll post a story on that once we know).

In the meantime, lobby group, Media Monitoring Africa has produced an awesome infographic which traces Motsoeneng’s illustrious career and controversial decisions he’s made this year.

Check them out below.
