Check out this functional V8 engine made out of LEGO

Let’s get it out of the way: no, this scale model of a V8, 32 valve four stroke engine does not combust petrol and create motion. But, for a LEGO model, it does pretty much everything else.

Created by YouTube content creator N.Z. Construction Studio, this build is mainly made out of LEGO Technic pieces. Technic is a subset of the building system which focuses on machinery and includes gears, axles, cogs, pistons and everything else you’d need to make an engine. The real difficulty comes in putting it all together.

And, unlike and engine which creates power, this model actually consumes it. It uses the motor and battery box from LEGO’s Power Functions lines to operate so you caan see it in motion. Enjoy.

If you’re impressed by this we strongly suggest you check out the set 42056: Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This slightly insane “toy” uses 2 704 pieces to create a  1:8 scale model of a Porsche 911 GT3 RS complete with a similarly functional engine as well as a double-clutch transmission.

All of that will cost you, sit down for this, R4 500 locally. Even worse: we’ve seen some local retailers jacking the price of this limited run set up to R6 000.
