#SABC’s Maguvhe challenges parliament: “I’m going nowhere”

The chair of the SABC board, Professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe, has challenged Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications to “bring on” the inquiry into the board, saying he won’t be going anywhere regardless of its outcome.

Maguvhe addressed the media this afternoon following yesterday’s all-day meeting in parliament, which saw the board answering questions on a number of issues, including the hiring of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as GE of Corporate Affairs.

The committee resolved to institute an inquiry into the board, before dissolving it.

It has been speculated that some board members may resign before the inquiry.

“You want to know, whether I’m resigning or not. I am still waiting for the letter [from parliament] that is supposed to be coming to me, bullying me to resign…through the so-called inquiry, they want to make me to become a coward,” Maguvhe said.

Maguvhe said he is not sure whether the letter is coming, but posed a challenge to the committee.

“Let the inquiry come, I’m ready for it so it means I’m going nowhere… Before I was appointed to serve on this board I was already a professor at the University of South Africa… I didn’t come to this board because I didn’t have anything to do… I’m not an employee here [SABC],” he added.

Maguvhe ended off by reiterating his challenge to the committee.

“I am going nowhere, with or without an inquiry,” he said.
