Pre-orders open for DJI Mavic Pro and the price is as crazy as the drone

Here’s the good news: fans of aerial videography and photography will be pleased to hear that the DJI Mavic is coming to SA.

Here’s the bad news: it has the ludicrous price tag of R19 999.

Local electronics repair house weFix is currently taking pre-orders on its website and you need to put down a R1 999 deposit to secure your drone. When it lands on our shores in mid-November you will need to pay an additional R18 000 before you get your new drone.

Now, while that price is steep it’s not as dear as the bulky DJI Phantom 4, which weFix is also selling for R23 999.

Before you assume the Mavic Pro is worse than the Phantom 4, we urge you to reconsider. For one, the Mavic fits in the palm of your hand and weighs just 783 grams. The onboard 12MP camera is capable of recording UHD (3840×2160) footage at 30 frames per second.

The Mavic Pro is capable of remaining airborne for 27 minutes for up to 13km according to DJI and can reach speeds of 65km/h in Sport Mode.

The drone boasts features such as ActiveTrack which allows the user to pick a subject to follow during flight and a selfie mode which requires a simple wave to snap an image.

On a related note, YouTuber Casey Niestat was given the Mavic to test out and you can check out a few of the shots he got in the video below.
