Someone turned the ‘skeleton warning’ meme into a real device

This whole story is going to seem bonkers if you don’t spend a lot of time on the internet looking at pictures of skeletons, but let’s get into it.

There is a meme that has been circulating the web for a while now given the broad term “2spooky”.

We won’t go into the history of it or why people find it funny, because there’s an entire site dedicated to doing that. Instead we’ll be looking at one particular image that does the rounds every so often, especially now near Halloween.

Given many names but usually just called “the scale of spooky“, the conceit of this image is that it’s a warning system. Something of a DEFCON for a silly internet joke about skeletons coming to attack you (or draft you into the skeleton war, either one).

Now someone has turned this skeleton warning system into an electronic board that makes the idea of the joke a reality.

Building a Skeleton Warning System (and bonus spooky skeleton dump)

An Imgur user has taken the original image and mounted inside a frame. Behind the picture there is a lighting system that can be set to illuminate one level of the warning system at a time.

It’s a bit more complex than that, but at the end of the day this project was intended to turn a series of gifs on the internet into a tangible object, it definitely succeeds in doing that.

To the person who created it (Imgur user ““), we salute you.

If you’ve reached the end of this story you either understood the point of it from the get go (and you spend as much time on the internet as I do), or you didn’t and I’ve made you aware of something completely pointless.

I’m not sure if either of those is a good outcome. My doctor says my Vitamin D deficiency comes from not spending enough time in the sun (go and have a lie down -ed.).
