Fidget Cube Kickstarter ends with almost R90 million in funding

Fifty days ago a new Kickstarter campaign began for the Fidget Cube – a six-sided toy with a different gimmick on each side intended for people who always need something in their hands to fidget with.

After gifs of the product in action circulated around the internet and more news sites picked it up, the Fidget Cube Kickstarter started picking up momentum and this only snowballed as time went on.

When the campaign ended in the early hours of this morning, it had managed to raise  $6 465 690 (almost R90 million) in funding from 154 926 backers.

In a backers-only email, creators Matthew and Mark McLachlan (under the company name Antsy Labs) said the following:

The campaign has officially come to a close!

The last 50 days have been truly incredible. We have been completely blown away by the community involvement in Fidget Cube, as well as your belief in us and this project. We do not take this lightly!

We also want to take a moment to say a big THANK YOU. This community is amazing, and we are so stoked to have you all along for the ride. Fidget Cube is something that we both enjoyed developing, but never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined where you all would take it. So again, thank you.

On a side note – we know that the Backer Designed Color Scheme voting process wasn’t ideal for the initial round. We apologize to those who were unable to provide input on this round, and we are excited to post the final round of voting shortly! (This will be hosted on our site and everyone should be able to participate with ease).

Now backers and interested parties will have to wait to see if the Fidget Cube will make it into the hands of those who have put their money behind it. The first batch is intended for a December 2016 release with the next shipment supposedly coming in March of 2017, according to backer-only updates.

Finally, Antsy Labs has opened an online store where the cube can be bought like a regular product for those who missed backing the Kickstarter campaign. This version is selling for a discounted $22 (R305, down from $25/R347) and is earmarked for delivery in April of 2017.
