Project Isizwe wins global “Best Affordable Internet” award

Free internet social organisation, Project Isizwe, has won an international award for the Tshwane free WiFi (TshWiFi) initiative.

Project Isizwe was nominated in the Best Affordable Internet Connection category in the WiFi NOW awards.

The awards are hosted during the premier WiFi NOW International expo and conference in London from 25th to 27th October.

Project Isizwe was nominated alongside two other similar initiatives in its category.

Delivering Free WiFi to more than two million citizens in South Africa’s capital city, TshWiFi is the biggest deployment of its kind on the African continent with over 1000 WiFi hotspots – known as TshWi-Fi Free Internet Zones – across Tshwane.

“This award is more than just praise for an incredible project, it is acknowledgement that local challenges can be met and overcome with a uniquely South African approach to technology and innovation,” Project Isizwe said.

Mayor of Tshwane, Solly Msimanga, has recognised the award and dedicated it to the officials of the city who have worked on this project to make it possible, in partnership with Project Isizwe.
