Why Hlaudi says he will not go back to school

Will Hlaudi Motsoeneng ever go back to finish his matric or even get a tertiary certificate? “A big no”, according to the man himself.

Motsoeneng was answering a question from a journalist during a media briefing following yesterday’s meeting with Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications.

In 2014, it was revealed that Motsoeneng lied about having a matric certificate and that the SABC knew about this, but hired him as a freelance journalist anyway.

He began by beating around the bush on how one doesn’t necessarily need a certificate to do well in their job and that it’s possible for an unqualified person to do better than those with certificates.

“Coming to the issue of should I go back to school, the answer is a big no, because I’m able to do everything that I can do. I am able to beat those people with degrees [sic],” Motsoeneng said.

“Why [do] I go to different universities and lecture students if I’m a useless person? Why [do] the universities say ‘Hlaudi, because of this unique and expertise on leadership, we are going to make sure that we put our syllabus on all issues that you raised’ and some of those students, they are using syllabus?,” he asked.

Basically, what he tried to convey was why would universities call him to lecture if he needed a matric?

Motsoeneng was then quick to add that people should not be judged based on their qualifications, but instead should be judged on whether they can deliver.

However, he added that the importance of an education should not be ignored.
