Muthambi to be grilled over SABC board and Hlaudi’s job

Minister of Communications, Faith Muthambi, will today have to answer for a number of controversial occurrences at the SABC, including the appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng to his new job.

Muthambi will be required to orally reply to the following written questions that will be asked today during the third session of the National Council of Provinces, by a number of MPs from opposing parties:

On the appointment of Motsoeneng as GE of Corporate Affairs:

Mr M Khawula (KwaZulu-Natal: IFP) to ask the Minister of Communications:

(1) Whether the correct legal processes of (a) advertising, (b) interviews and (c) appointment were followed at the SA Broadcasting Corporation in appointing a certain person (name furnished) [Motsoeneng] to the position of General Manager: Corporate Affairs; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

(2) Whether this position was already vacant; if not, (a) how was this position vacated and (b) why; if so, what are the relevant details?

Mr J W W Julius (Gauteng: DA) to ask the Minister of Communications:

Which qualifications are required for the position of Group Executive of Corporate Affairs of the SA Broadcasting Corporation?

On the resignation of three member of the board

Mr L B Gaehler (Eastern Cape: UDM) to ask the Minister of Communications:

(1) Whether, with regard to the resignation of two members of the Board of the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), the SABC Board forms the quorum; if so, what are the relevant details; if not, (2) how does she envisage the Board to operate and discharge its responsibilities under the circumstances?

On the SABC crisis

Mr M M Chabangu (Free State: EFF) to ask the Minister of Communications:

(1) What role did she play to resolve the crisis at the SA Broadcasting Corporation?

(2) What action is she taking regarding the allegations that a certain person (name furnished) [Motsoeneng] continues with his conduct (details furnished)?

Muthambi’s replies will no doubt be highly anticipated, as she is yet to answer on any of the above matters, which have played out in front of Parliament and at the SABC offices for some months now.
