#Trumpwins: Five things to feel good about

Well, it happened. The prospect most of the world felt was too horrible, too terrifying and just too batshit insane to contemplate: Donald Trump is going to be the 45th President of the United States Of America.

This, despite Barack Obama’s best efforts to put forward a case against madness, a comprehensive battering at the hands of Hilary Clinton in pretty much every debate and the fact that most of Trump’s assertions could be disproved using a Google search. President Donald Trump. Hoo-boy!

There are obviously going to quite a few people who are delighted with this result, and it’s true that not everyone who voted for Trump (or supported his win) is a racist, misogynist homophobe with the brain of a sausage. Some would point to the fact that Hilary Clinton isn’t exactly a morally sound choir girl and that she represents a system that has done more to widen the rich/poor divide than any other in the history of humankind. A vote against her is a protest vote. To those people we say, this must be the first time your voting record matched up with that of the Klu Klux Klan’s. Well done you!

For the rest of us, the next four years may look more than a little bleak. In fact it’s about as bleak as doing the accounts for Joy Division in the week Ian Curtis hanged himself. So ahead of the wailing and gnashing of teeth, we at htxt decided to spread a little cheer – someone has to – by telling you all that even now, on the eve of destruction, there are some reasons to be optimistic about the months ahead.

If you invested in Bitcoin you may be sitting on a small fortune

Donald Trump may be having a lovely time but the international markets aren’t. Ever since pollsters started calling the election for The Don, International markets have plunged with U.S. stocks leading the charge to the bottom going down 506 points, according to Forbes. The value of the dollar – and several other currencies – also dropped as financial experts started to opine Trump’s presidency may signal the beginning of a downgrade of global growth expectations.

Naturally, this all leads to uncertainty over the future, and with uncertainty, investors tend to look into alternative assets. To that end, the price of Bitcoin has started to rise and if you’re one of those investors who got in on the ground floor with this currency, Trump’s win could see you sitting pretty quite soon. Speaking of alternative assets…

The gold price is going up

Yes, it isn’t just Bitcoin that’s enjoying a fantastic morning: the gold price has gone up too. In times of uncertainty investors don’t just explore new avenues, they tend also to rush towards safe havens and the yellow metal traditionally is viewed as one of the world’s safest.

The price soared to around 4% to $1,316 an ounce on Tuesday night, which is the largest rise since the Brexit vote back in July.

South Africa will no longer have the craziest news cycle

Down here at the tip of Africa, we have a pretty insane news cycle. Between the State Capture reports, general madness at the SABC, the #FeesMustFall protests and more, South Africans are used to seeing their news feeds blow up real good on a regular basis. That having been said, for all of the criticism that’s been aimed at President Zuma, he’s never threatened to build a wall separating South Africa and Zimbabawe. Or claimed that Zimbabwe would pay for it. Or accused all Zimbabweans of being drug dealers and rapists. Or claimed that his predecessor wasn’t born here. Or… well, you get the idea.

Keep an eye on the USA news cycle. It’s about to resemble a trash fire.

There’s a new Hearthstone expansion coming out

If, like us, you’re a fan of Blizzard’s card-battling game (and if you’re not this is the best time to become one), you have something to look forward to in the form of Mean Streets Of Gadgetzan. The new expansion featuring around 130-odd cards drops early next month, so if you needed something to take your mind off the fact that Trump is president, Blizzard has you covered.

We’re giving away some cool stuff

You know what’s another great way to forget about your trouble and strife? Winning free stuff!

Realise, we’re not making light of today’s events. We’re in for some grim times. Just keep your heads up, readers!
