Blizzard is letting you play Overwatch for free for a weekend

If you haven’t had a chance to try out Overwatch – Blizzard’s team shooter – we have some good news.

From November 18th to the 21st, players on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One will be able to play Overwatch for free.

Rather than cut off access to some heroes and maps, Blizzard will make all 22 heroes and all 13 maps available in Quick Play, Custom Games and the Weekly Brawl. What’s more, players will even be able to level up, earn Loot Boxes and unlock various customisation options for their heroes.

While this all seems very charitable, remember this is just one free weekend. If you want to carry on enjoying the game after that weekend you’ll need to buy it. The good news is that so long as you use the same Battle.net, Xbox Live or Sony Entertainment account, players will keep all the gear and XP they earned during the free weekend.

The free weekend will start at various times depending on which server you prefer. If you log in via the European server the free weekend starts at 8pm on Friday 21st.

How to download and play Overwatch on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4

If you’re using a PC you will need to download and install the free Battle.net desktop client. While you’re waiting for that to download you’ll also want to set up a Battle.net account; it’s free if you don’t have one already.

Once Battle.net has installed click the Overwatch icon, select which server you want to play on and then click install. Once the game is installed click Play and you’re in.

On Playstation 4 you need to log in to your local user account and then head to the Playstation Store. In the search bar type Overwatch and then select and download Overwatch Free Weekend. Once the download is complete you can begin laying waste to your enemies.

Finally on Xbox One log in to your Xbox Live account. Go to the Xbox One Store and search for Overwatch. From the results select Overwatch: Origins Edition and then select Free Trial. Once the game has downloaded all you need to do is click Launch to begin.

If you’re playing on console you will need and Xbox Live Gold membership or a Playstation Plus membership depending on the console you’re using. PC players simply need a working internet connection.

One last thing: make sure you have enough internet cap for the download which Blizzard estimates clocks in at about 12GBs, you will of course need additional data to play online.
