Eskom CEO Brian Molefe to step down in January

Eskom chief executive officer Brian Molefe has announced that he will step down from his position effective 1st January 2017.

While Molefe did feature quite prominently in former Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela’s, State of Capture report released last week, he has said that his decision is not to be seen as an admission of guilt.

“This act is not an admission of wrongdoing on my part. It is rather what I feel to be the correct thing to do in the interests of the company and good corporate governance,” Molefe said in a statement.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe appears to have confirmed that the CEO will step down.

The CEO thanked Lynn Brown, the Eskom board, executive team and all the enterprise’s employees for their hard work and guidance during his 20 months as the group chief executive.

“I go now, because it is in the interests of Eskom and the public it serves that I do so,” concluded Molefe.
