Madonsela, Muthambi to be witnesses at SABC board inquiry

Former Public Ptotector, Thuli Madonsela and Minister of Communications, Faith Muthambi, will be among the list of witnesses called to give evidence in the parliamentary inquiry into the SABC board’s fitness to hold office.

This was revealed in the first meeting held by the inquiry’s ad hoc committee in Parliament, to discuss the way forward with regards to the inquiry.

Muthambi will be called in in her capacity as minister of the department to which the SABC answers to, while Madonsela will be called because of a 2014 report compiled after an investigation into the public broadcaster, which included findings on the controversial appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as COO.

The SABC is left with a total of four board members, after all but one of its non-executive board members resigned. However, committee members have insisted that the inquiry go on, despite members jumping ship.

Other witnesses to be called include former SABC board members from previous years, including those who resigned and those who were fired.

The next meeting will be held on 29th November.

The ad hoc also chose Vincent Smith as it chairperson and resolved to report back on the inquiry 15th February 2017.
