Last chance for Gauteng parents to register kids for grades 1 and 8

It’s now or never for parents in Gauteng who are yet to register their kids for grades one or eight in 2017, as the Gauteng Department of Education will not be accepting any further late application after this month.

The department confirmed to htxt.africa that to date, 73 427 late applications have been received for both Grades one and eight in the province, since June.

The placement of pupils who applied on time is still ongoing, with 167 852 having secured a school for next year so far.

Parents who applied late will unfortunately not have the luxury of choosing which school they want their child to attend, but will have to settle for placements wherever there is space still available.

When asked whether or not there are enough places to accommodate all children who are registering for 2017, the department did not give a direct answer, but said has been progressively opening new schools in the province, which will be used to accommodate learners in all pressure points.

“All parents must register by the end of November as no further late applications will be accepted,” it said.
