Xbox Games with Gold December line-up is actually rather decent

Can you believe it’s almost Christmas? It is you know – it’s only five Sundays away – so we hope you’ve been saving up to buy presents for your loved ones. In today’s economic climate, the Festive Season can easily bankrupt those who aren’t careful with their money.

Naturally, gift shopping will mean you have less money to spend on yourself, but fret not, dear gamer – Microsoft has your back if you happen to be an Xbox Gold subscriber. This coming December Xbox One and Xbox 360 Gold members can pick up some rather decent games absolutely free. Unlike the usual bargain bin titles MS deigns to throw out on a monthly basis, December’s line-up is all quality.

Xbox 360 owners will receive Outland and Burnout Paradise. If you’ve never heard of them, the former is a rather atmospheric little platformer published by Ubisoft and the latter is one of the best open world racers ever made. You can see them in action below.

Xbox One Gold subscriber have the best pick this December. First off, you can pick up both of the above titles for nothing because they’re supported by the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility. Nice, right?

On top of that you can pick up two fantastic games: Sleeping Dogs and Outlast. Sleeping Dogs is an open world adventure set in Hong Kong that mashes up street racing, brutal kung fu, gunfights and a plot that recalls the best of HK’s action cinema hey day – fans of John Woo and Ringo Lam should sign up immediately.

Outlast is for those players who are A) attracted to horror games and B) made of pretty stern stuff. We’re not kidding when we say it’s one of the most shit-yer-pants scary games made in recent memory. The opening 20 minutes alone may trouble those with heart conditions. Don’t believe us? Check out the video below and remember, we did warn you and this isn’t safe for work.

Now comes the catch – yes, there’s always a catch. These games are available for a limited time only so if you don’t pick ’em during the allotted window you lose out. Don’t worry, though, we have the dates for you below. We’ve also listed the cost if you fancy buying them and you’re not a Gold subscriber.

  • Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition (R 249.00): Available from December 1-31 on Xbox One
  • Outlast (169.00): Available from December 16January 15 on Xbox One
