Kagiso Media and MTN team up to host local Dota 2 tournament

Telkom’s eagerness to promote esports in South Africa seems to have spread to more big brands as Kagiso Media and MTN team up to host a Dota 2 tournament.

The Mega8 Dota 2 Invitational will take place from 2nd to 4th December and will see eight of South Africa’s best Dota 2 teams square off for their share of a R50 000 prize pool.

The eight teams in question are Aperture Gaming, White Rabbit Gaming, ExDee Gaming, Carbon, XTC, Bravado Gaming, Ventus Pink and Flipsid3 Tactics. It will be interesting to see whether White Rabbit Gaming can repeat the performance we saw at the Telkom DGL Masters Finals earlier this year.

The tournament will be broadcast with “professional casters” though no names have been given just yet.

Although the broadcast will happen in Cape Town, it will be streamed and you’ll be able to watch the tournament live on both Twitch and YouTube Gaming from the moment it starts at 19:00 on the 2nd December right through to the finals on the 4th December.

As great as this news is, there is a slight clash. The Dota 2 Boston Major group stage is scheduled to take place on the same weekend the Mega8 Tournament is happening so you’ll have decide between local Dota or international Dota.

Of course you could just pick up a second display during the Black Friday madness and watch both. Whatever you decide next weekend is going to be a great one for Dota fans.

[Update 25/11] Kate Gerhardt from Mega8 tells us that the Boston Major and Mega8 shouldn’t clash so you’ll just need the energy to watch all of next weekend’s Dota action.
