Sony kicks off Black Friday with PS4 deal

Black Friday has pretty much always been ‘a thing’ in the USA since about 1932.

Those familiar with it will know that retailers drop their prices to insanely low levels, heralding in the beginning of the Christmas shopping season and causing loads of consumer stampedes across the country.

Gradually, as consumerism has tightened its vice-like grip on the population of earth, the concept of Black Friday has spread beyond the borders of the USA and even reached our local shores here in South Africa. Do a quick Google search and it’s likely you’ll find a retail outlet near you (or online) that’s selling some products at rock-bottom prices.

This morning, Sony announced that it’s getting on the Black Friday game by slashing prices on 500GB PlayStation 4 consoles to four grand (inclusive of VAT). Yes, we can’t believe it either. We got this information literally about five minutes ago.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced the one-day PlayStation 4® Black Friday deal available in South Africa,” Sony said in a press statement. “The offer includes thePlayStation4 (PS4) computer entertainment system with 500GB hard disk drive (HDD) available from R3999.99 (Recommended Retail Price on C Chassis PS4) inclusive of VAT.”

If you want to take advantage of this offer, you’d better pop along to one of the retailers its valid at. Here they are:

  • BT Games
  • Takealot.com
  • Game4U
  • Musica
  • Dion Wired
  • Game
  • C.N.A
  • Makro

Now for the catch – and yes, there’s always a catch – Sony says that this offer is “available through select” stores. Just because you pitch up at your local C.N.A. for example, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be able to take advantage of this deal. Naturally, this offer is only in place while stocks last and although the press release we were sent mentioned no date, we’re assuming this offer only kicks in tomorrow.

Players, start your engines and pray that your credit cards don’t melt tomorrow!
