DA to face off against Maguvhe over SABC inquiry interdict

After lone non-executive SABC board member, Mbulaheni Maguvhe launched an interdict to halt the parliamentary inquiry by the Portfolio Committee on Communications, the DA has announced it will challenge the interdict in court.

Maguvhe applied to have the inquiry interdicted for a number of reasons; the motion alleges that that three committee members, including DA spokesperson, Phumzile van Damme, are biased against the SABC.

The interdict wants all proceedings of the current ad hoc committee to be suspended and for the committee to be reconstituted. The interdict will only be heard at the Western Cape High Court on Friday.

“It is a costly and unnecessary exercise by one man who is seeking to cling to power for his own sake, while ignoring the desperate need to restore the integrity of the national broadcaster, which is what Parliament is seeking to do through the ad hoc committee,” the DA’s James Selfe said.

“Not only is this interdict vexatious but it is ludicrous…The DA is confident that this interdict will not succeed and that in the end Maguvhe as the last remaining member of the SABC board will be held to account to Parliament,” he added.
